Surgeon's Constant Learning Keeps Athletes on Track

Familiarity with current research and proficiency in advanced surgical techniques help Adam V. Metzler, M.D., better treat athletes who suffer painful anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) knee injuries.  But Dr. Metzler takes this commitment even further as he teaches other surgeons.

As Associate Master Instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America, Dr. Metzler educates surgeons worldwide in ACL reconstruction techniques.  He attends national meetings, participates in skills labs to master the latest devices and contributes to think tank discussions.

"If you're doing this type of surgery, you should be constantly training and studying - and frequently wondering, 'Is there anything I could do better?'" he says.  This multifaceted approach "directly correlates to improved patient outcomes in the operating room."
