If you have joint replacement surgery, your rehabilitation and physical therapy following the surgery is very important.
After your joint replacement, you should expect to have physical therapy two to three days per week for eight to 10 weeks. The focus of your therapy sessions will be to gain the strength and mobility necessary to return to your prior level of function. During this time, your therapist will work with you to gain full range of motion of your hip or knee. Your physical therapist will also work with you to regain your strength and to return to activities such as going up and down stairs without fear of falling.
Physical therapy after a joint replacement can be challenging and rewarding. By working together with your therapist and doing a home exercise program regularly, you can expect to get back to enjoying all that life has to offer!
