Dr. McConnell graduated from James Madison University in 1992 and received his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia in 1997. He completed his internship in general surgery and residency in orthopaedic surgery at Boston University Medical Center.
He is currently only one of five active members in the Orthopaedic Trauma Association in Greater Cincinnati. In 2001, he received the Edwin G. Bovill Award for the most outstanding international scientific paper in orthopaedic trauma from the Orthopaedic Trauma Association. He is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Medical Society and a member of the American College of Sports Medicine. Dr. McConnell is board-certified by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery.
He is the current Director of Orthopaedic Trauma at Bethesda North Hospital. In this role, he is responsible for organizing on-call coverage and ensuring appropriate orthopaedic care for patients seen at Bethesda North Emergency. He is also the chairman of the Geriatric Hip Fracture program at Bethesda North Hospital.
He is also licensed by the Ohio Athletic Commission as a Ringside Physician. He has provided medical care to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) at internationally televised events and local promotions in southwest Ohio.
His specialty interests include orthopaedic trauma and fracture care, partial- and total-knee replacement, anterior-hip replacement, and sports injuries.
He is married to Dr. Jennifer A. McConnell and they have four sons. In his spare time, Dr. McConnell enjoys being with family and friends, traveling, reading and exercise. He received his certification as a Level 1 CrossFit Personal Trainer in 2008 and competed in the 2009 CrossFit games. In August of 2012, he attended SEALFIT Kokoro 25 Camp in Encintas, CA., a grueling, 55-hour straight, physical and mental endurance experience modeled from the U.S. Navy SEAL training. Dr. McConnell is proud and honored to have completed this program.
Dr. McConnell was named a "Top Doctor" by Cincinnati Magazine in 2015, 2016, 2017, and again in 2018.
