Dr. Langenderfer graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1986 and served as an officer in the U.S. Army reaching the rank of Captain. After leaving the service, he attended the University of Virginia School of Medicine. A Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, he completed his Orthopaedic training at the University of Cincinnati and joined OrthoCincy in 2000.
Dr. Langenderfer has subspecialty interest in sports medicine and joint replacements. He has extensive experience, having performed more than 15,000 surgeries in the reconstruction of shoulders, hips and knees affected by sports injuries or degenerative diseases.
With comprehensive expertise in treatment of the shoulder, Dr. Langenderfer utilizes all of the latest technologies including arthroscopic repair of rotator cuffs, labral tears and shoulder instability patterns and is a shoulder replacement expert. His patients range from division-one to recreational athletes.
Focusing on all aspects of knee pathology, Dr. Langenderfer has performed over 9,000 knee surgeries. He restores injured knees with meniscal repair techniques, cartilage restoration and replacement procedures, microfracture techniques and cartilage transplantations. He is also skilled in all aspects of ACL reconstruction utilizing autogenous and allograft materials.
Dr. Langenderfer has extensive experience in total-knee and hip replacements. By using MRI technology to perform patient instrumentation surgeries, he reduces discomfort and speeds patient recovery. He performs minimally invasive total-hip replacements and more than 300 total-joint replacements each year.
He provides medical coverage to the Cincinnati-area ice hockey community, has served as the Chief of Orthopaedics for Mercy South Hospital and is currently the Physician Executive for TriHealth Evendale Hospital.
Dr. Langenderfer and his wife, Dr. Rachel A. Langenderfer, have four children. He is active in the community coaching and playing ice hockey. An Eagle Scout himself, he serves as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 674 in Montgomery, Ohio.
Dr. Langenderfer was named a "Top Doctor" by Cincinnati Magazine in 2015, 2016, 2017, and again in 2018.
