Dr. R. Michael Greiwe, a shoulder and elbow surgery expert and also a sports medicine specialist, recently edited Shoulder and Elbow Trauma and Its Complications (Elsevier, 2015) for orthopaedic clinicians. Approximately 50 distinguished surgeons from throughout the U.S. and Canada contributed to the book, making the job easy, according to Dr. Greiwe. The book ultimately provides a broad learning and teaching tool for medical students, residents, and attending physicians and surgeons. Scientific illustrations, photographs and infographics help clarify topics ranging from complex dislocations and rotator cuff tears to glenoid and scapular fractures.
Contributors are pleased with the newly released book, and positive reviews are starting to accumulate. While Dr. Greiwe believes this resource will help surgeons concentrate on technique as well as prevention, he cites a renewed focus and planning in his own work as a result of the project. "I think it has really helped my patients," he says.
