Total joint replacement is a surgical procedure in which parts of an arthritic or damaged joint are removed and replaced with a metal, plastic, or ceramic device called a prosthesis. The prosthesis is designed to replicate the movement of a normal, healthy joint.

OrthoBiologics are natural substances such as cells, tissue, blood components, and growth factors that are harnessed to aid in the treatment of orthopaedic conditions. We have several physicians that offer trusted alternatives in order to provide patients with a broad spectrum of treatment options that can help patients heal faster without surgical intervention – one of those being platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections.
Other options can include Stem-Cell Therapy or Tendon Fenestration (TENEX) type procedures. More conservative methods of treatment are typically attempted first, such as rest, medication, physical therapy, etc., but when those methods fail, these treatment options can be a nice alternative.
Plasma is the liquid portion of blood. It is composed largely of water and proteins, and it provides a medium for red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets to circulate through the body.
The platelets primary function is to prevent and stop bleeding. If a blood vessel is damaged, the body sends signals to platelets which cause them to travel to the injured area. Once the platelets arrive at the site, they clump together to form a clot that helps stop bleeding. Platelet activation plays a key role in the body's natural healing process.
PRP therapy uses injections from the concentration of a patient’s own platelets to accelerate the healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints. In this way, PRP injections use each individual patient's own healing system to improve musculoskeletal problems. This type of therapy can help relieve pain in the affected area and also jump start the healing process.

OrthoCincy has assembled a Workers’ Compensation team to help you during your recovery from your work injury. The team works together with nurse case managers to file pre-authorizations, maintain contact with your employer and the Workers’ Compensation office, and help you through the entire process. Since you’re using your employer’s insurance carrier to cover expenses from your injury, we are obligated to work through your employer to file claims. Many companies have case managers who may come to appointments with you to follow your progress.
The doctor is looking at your physical healing as well as your ability to return to work, even if it is for modified duty. Your employer will decide if the work place can meet your need for light duty. By maintaining open communication with all parties involved, we are able to ensure each patient receives the comprehensive care needed to resume their work related responsibilities.
