Please call 859.301.2663 and we will be happy to get you in as soon as possible.

Uses:

  • Immobilize fractures
  • Reduce pain and swelling during the healing process
  • Utilized after surgery to protect the bone(s) and ensure they remain in proper alignment while recovering
  • Patients are usually in a cast between 4 and 12 weeks, depending on the injury

Materials:

  • Stockinette (knitted “sock-like” fabric): helps to prevent the skin from rubbing against the edges of the fiberglass
  • Cotton bandage/padding: used to make it soft and provide padding around bony areas while also absorbing any sweat or moisture that may build up under the cast
  • Fiberglass: is a strong & hard material, and helps to keep the inner layers in place
  • *Special waterproof padding: (can only be used in certain circumstances, depending on the injury) Repels water while allowing water vapor to pass through it; This is placed under the fiberglass material.
    • Waterproof casts can’t be used after surgery or when pins are placed due to the risk of infection

Podiatrists are healthcare professionals who specialize in diagnosing and treating conditions of the feet and ankles, including nail and skin conditions. They are also known as foot doctors or podiatric physicians. When it comes to foot and nail care, podiatrists perform a range of services to help maintain and improve the health of their patients’ feet. Some of these services include:

  • Nail care: Podiatrists can diagnose and treat conditions related to toenails, such as ingrown toenails, fungal infections, and thickened nails. They can also perform nail surgery to remove ingrown toenails or treat other nail conditions.
  • Skin care: Podiatrists can diagnose and treat skin conditions on the feet, such as athlete’s foot, warts, and corns and calluses. They may also prescribe medication or recommend topical treatments to help alleviate symptoms.
  • Foot care: Podiatrists can perform a range of foot care services, including removing dead skin, trimming calluses, and fitting patients for orthotics (custom shoe inserts).
  • Diabetic foot care: People with diabetes are at increased risk for foot complications, so podiatrists can help manage and prevent these complications. They can perform regular foot exams, provide education on foot care, and treat diabetic foot ulcers or other related conditions.

Overall, podiatrists play a critical role in maintaining the health of their patients’ feet and ensuring they can move around comfortably and without pain.

An EMG is a diagnostic test that measures the electrical activity of muscles and nerves in the body. A physician may order an EMG for several reasons:

  • Muscle Weakness: If a patient is experiencing muscle weakness, the physician may order an EMG to determine if the weakness is due to a problem with the muscles or the nerves.
  • Nerve Damage: EMG can identify nerve damage and determine the location and extent of the damage.
  • Pain: If a patient has unexplained pain or numbness in the arms or legs, an EMG can help to diagnose the source of the pain.
  • Muscle Spasms: If a patient has muscle spasms, an EMG can help to identify the cause of the spasms and help determine the best treatment plan.
  • Neuromuscular Disorders: EMG can be used to diagnose and monitor the progression of neuromuscular disorders, such as muscular dystrophy or ALS.

Overall, an EMG can help our physicians to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the muscles and nerves, and to determine the most appropriate treatment plan for the patient. Here at OrthoCincy, we have physicians who specialize in Electrodiagnostic Medicine that can perform this diagnostic test internally.

OrthoCincy offers a full range of imaging services at convenient locations across the tri-state area. Our imaging services include X-Ray, MRI, and Ultrasound.

X-Ray
X-ray or radiography uses a very small dose of ionizing radiation to produce pictures of the body’s internal structures. X-rays are the oldest and most frequently used form of medical imaging. They are often used to help diagnose fractured bones, look for injury or infection and to locate foreign objects in soft tissue.

MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
MRI uses strong magnet and radio waves to provide clear and detailed diagnostic images of internal body organs and tissues. MRI is a valuable tool for diagnosing a broad range of conditions, including joint and musculoskeletal disorders/injuries, cancer, heart/vascular disease, and strokes. MRI allows for the evaluation of some body structures that may not be as visible with other diagnostic imaging methods, such as an X-Ray or CT scan.
  • Available Locations: Edgewood, Florence and Highland Heights (NKU) locations.
  • Wide Bore MRI: Our Wide Bore MRI accommodates patients of a higher weight and/or those who are claustrophobic.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a diagnostic exam utilizing high frequency sound waves to obtain pictures of the internal structures of your body – no radiation is needed. It can be used to help diagnose the causes of pain, swelling and infection. This technology allows us to better evaluate muscles, tendons, ligaments, and other structures.
What are cortisone injections?
Cortisone shots are injections that can help relieve pain and reduce inflammation in a specific area of your body. The injections usually contain a corticosteroid medication and a local anesthetic, like lidocaine. They’re most commonly injected into joints — such as your hip, knee, shoulder, elbow, wrist or ankle. Even the small joints in your hands or feet might benefit from cortisone injections.

What conditions are treated with cortisone injections?
A healthcare provider may treat any condition that causes pain and inflammation with a cortisone injection, including:
  • Autoimmune disorders
  • Arthritis
  • Tendinitis
  • Tendinopathy
  • Bursitis
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Tennis elbow
  • Trigger finger and trigger thumb
How do they work?
Providers give cortisone injections during an office visit directly into the affected area or the joint involved, or sometimes into a large muscle to get it directly into the bloodstream. The injection often includes a local anesthetic (pain reliever) to start easing pain immediately, then it can take up to a week for a cortisone shot to take full effect. Results of cortisone shots typically depend on the reason for the treatment. Results can last up to several months. Due to the potential side effects, the number of shots you can get in a year is generally limited.

Total joint replacement is a surgical procedure in which parts of an arthritic or damaged joint are removed and replaced with a metal, plastic, or ceramic device called a prosthesis. The prosthesis is designed to replicate the movement of a normal, healthy joint.

Seeing a doctor as soon as you begin experiencing joint pain is critical. Oftentimes, the quicker you seek care, the less intense treatment you’ll require. At OrthoCincy, surgical intervention is often reserved for when other non-invasive treatments haven’t worked, or no longer work, as desired.

Our orthopaedic surgeons bring extensive knowledge and research breakthroughs to every patient. As experts in both arthroscopic and traditional surgery, we are committed to delivering the best surgical and nonsurgical options for you.

OrthoBiologics are natural substances such as cells, tissue, blood components, and growth factors that are harnessed to aid in the treatment of orthopaedic conditions. We have several physicians that offer trusted alternatives in order to provide patients with a broad spectrum of treatment options that can help patients heal faster without surgical intervention – one of those being platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections

Other options can include Stem-Cell Therapy or Tendon Fenestration (TENEX) type procedures. More conservative methods of treatment are typically attempted first, such as rest, medication, physical therapy, etc., but when those methods fail, these treatment options can be a nice alternative.

Plasma is the liquid portion of blood. It is composed largely of water and proteins, and it provides a medium for red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets to circulate through the body.

The platelets primary function is to prevent and stop bleeding. If a blood vessel is damaged, the body sends signals to platelets which cause them to travel to the injured area. Once the platelets arrive at the site, they clump together to form a clot that helps stop bleeding. Platelet activation plays a key role in the body's natural healing process.

PRP therapy uses injections from the concentration of a patient’s own platelets to accelerate the healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints. In this way, PRP injections use each individual patient's own healing system to improve musculoskeletal problems. This type of therapy can help relieve pain in the affected area and also jump start the healing process.
